I have two ‘labeled’ by those around me, as ‘feral’ cats that do their own thing here, on my place without being a nuisance… One is black as midnight – full on! Another is a calico (I do not claim to know the expert labeling of long hair/short hair, colorings, etc., ) but, the other is dark background with white, orange, yellow markings sprinkled across their body…
And there is one orange (tabby?) that shows up every now and again – so durn big, sometimes, when he (she?) visits here or watches me as I come/go, stand in doorway to drink in the day, is big enough I first mistake Tabby (my nickname for this living being) as a small dog…
For myself? Meh – there is so much lore and meaning and information available on ‘this or that’ in the world of cats – me?
“good morning, (good afternoon, good night). Hello! You remind me of (this, that) on (this front or that) and “Thank you! figure you are the reason not so many mice and snakes show up in my house/near yard area. Appreciate it!”
That is my only love of cats/kitty posts – I seriously do not know what to do with animations of cats playing the piano, or wearing costumes, hats – etc. They are truly popular and beloved, but I…still…do …not…know…what…to understand on the continuing human online land phenomena of anything other than, “oh, look! a cat! doing their thing! Awesome!” hugs and kisses from afar!
Yeah, but ya know, this morning, at early, early, dawn’s early light? The calico sitting on top of my truck, looking alert, and I wondered, “um, predator nearby?” Not updated on whether the teeny-bopper mountain lion that has been sighted off and on for weeks, in our region, is still roaming about ‘in town’ areas or not…
First, I simply opened the blinds to see the area better, calico wild thing looked straight at where I gazed out, but no signs of fear or concern.
So I opened the door to great the pre-dawn world – calico disappears so fast, I don’t even know where they leapt to for their needs/preferances…
Bit while I stood to view landscape, it made me laugh, the white with calico spots kitty cat (wild/feral) trot right over, under my yard gate and truck right up to kitchen door and only noticed my prescence when 2-3 feet away and scooted away as fast as possible!
Thus, the wild, feral, house type and bigger really wild species cats, continue to fascinate, intrigue and entertain me, even as they don’t know what to make of me, when I watch/observe…
But, in the end, they are not ‘mine, pets or roommates’ they are, to me, only ‘living things I share the local landscape/ecosystem with” which is why –
I LOVE them, but also, never think of them as ‘mine, pets, or we are close pals, always”
π Cuz ya know? Freedom to be as one is OR to be beholden to the things we love, should, always (for us and cats and dogs) be freedom of choice, overall – ya know – Equality stuff! π
Definitely Meow-velous Pat… π xx Have a good weekend… xx and keep Meowing! xx
