Joke of the day – Lesson on whales

images

A teacher asked her class what they knew about whales. One little girl spoke up and said that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

The teacher smiled and said she didn’t think that was very likely, because even though whales can be big, their throats are not big enough to swallow a man. But the little girl was adamant, and maintained that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

The teacher was getting impatient, and reiterated that this was physically unlikely. But the girl was unmoved, and said that when she got to heaven, she would ask Jonah.

“But what if Jonah went to hell?” the teacher asked.
The girl replied, “Then you ask him.”

Award Description:
“This is an award for everyone who is part of the “Word Press Family” I start this award on the basis that the WordPress family has taken me in, and showed me love and a caring side only WordPress can. The way people take a second to be nice, to answer a question and not make things a competition amazes me here. I know I have been given many awards, but I wanted to leave my own legacy on here by creating my own award, as many have done before. This represents “Family” we never meet, but are there for us as family. It is my honour to start this award.” from Shaun @ http://prayingforoneday.wordpress.com/

Versatile blogger

Sometime late November last year, I was nominated for the Beautiful Blogger and Very Inspiring Blog awards approximately two weeks after I started this blog. I was excited but at that time I really had no idea what it was all about, being a new and not so tech-savvy blogger.

It was a pleasant surprise to receive the nomination of the Versatile Blogger Award from the blogger of the beautiful blog Letters to Chace & Harper. Thank you for the nomination. I’m truly grateful and glad to know others have been inspired by my blog.

THE RESURRECTION
By M.S.Lowndes

We hold so close to our hearts
The cross where Jesus died
But so much more than the blood-stained cross
Is that Jesus came back to life

The stone’s been rolled away
The tomb lay open and bare
They looked for Him, and then the angel said
That He is no longer here

Oh what joy they must have felt
To see Him just once more
To eat with Him, to drink with Him
To receive Him back as Lord

So much did He accomplish
Through His death upon the cross
And in His rising from the dead
He reconciled us back to God

Nothing else could bridge the gap
That sin had wrenched apart
Now we can freely go to God
And receive Christ in our hearts

Saving our planet

images

In a typical day, a person might drive to work alone, drink coffee from a disposable cup and eat lunch from cardboard with plastic ware. These seemingly harmless activities add to the overwhelming amount of pollution to our environment. It is easy to ignore and do nothing simply because the problem seems so out of control.

There are simple environment-conscious things we can do each day like recycling cans, bottles and newspapers; using baking soda and vinegar rather than harsh chemicals for cleaning floors and counters. Little changes in the way we live can have a positive effect on the future of this incredible planet. Taking care of the planet makes life better for everyone.

“Only when the last tree has been cut down,
Only when the last river has been poisoned,
Only when the last fish has been caught,
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.”

– Cree Indian Prophecy

Tips to avoid food poisoning

1. Regular hand washing particularly,

a. after you use the restroom.
b. before and after food handling.
c. after playing with your pets.

Note: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that the effortless act of just washing your hands has more potential to save lives than vaccination or medical intervention.

So, make it a habit to reach for the soap and water whenever necessary and you will be glad you did.

2. Always rinse your fruits and vegetables before eating.

3. When re-heating food, make sure it is served steaming hot.

4. Keep raw meat and seafood in the freezer unless you plan to cook it on the same day.

5. Store perishable foods in the fridge at 5°C or lower.

6. Check your pantry and fridge regularly and throw out food that has expired, stale or has fungus growing on it.

Help me find a job! Tips on how to survive a lay-off

Losing a job or being unemployed can be stressful.  As companies get lean and mean, here are 7 tips on how to safeguard your career:

1.  Always be alert

You need to be well informed about the outlook for your employer and your job.  If you know things are going down the drain, be on the lookout for other opportunities.  If the axe falls, you will have a head start on finding another job.

2.  Keep your skills current

Ensure that your skills are current with the needs of the job market.  Ge the most out of opportunities for additional training.  Read the literature of your field.

3.  Maintain up-to-date record

Maintaining an up-to-date record of your accomplishments so you can produce a updated resume in 24 hours.

4.  Stay connected

Cultivate contacts with people in your line of work and with those who are likely to employ your type of qualifications.  Be visible through outside activities and positive publicity.

5.  Lend a helping hand

Start by helping those who have lost their jobs.  Also, be of assistance to those who are looking to recruit employees.  They may help you in return someday.

6.  Have a plan

Work out a plan to market yourself.  Let it be known you are available.  Advertise what you have to offer.  Also involve your network of friends and family in the job search.

7.  Prepare financially

It is important to cultivate the habit of putting aside some money each month and to stay prepared financially.  Always try to have enough cash in reserve to cover at least 3 months worth of living expenses.
