CNY2018 with friends

My hometown friends…
Some of us met in kindergarten
others in Primary or
Secondary school
Keep in touch” was penned in my
autograph book by most friends.
Many years have come and gone
Staying in touch has proved to be
much harder than we thought.
But yesterday,  I was thankful
we made an effort to
come together for a simple
Chinese New Year lunch.
Though we missed those schoolmates
who were unable to join us.
It was fun to talk and laugh
about the good old days
the memories of our childhood
and school days that
have stayed with us and
kept us young at heart.
Some of us never did grow up,
grateful to those who accept
and tolerated our quirkiness.
We know each others’
strengths and weaknesses
yet we do not judge.
We accept each other
as individuals
with different views and
perspective about things.
After all, we are on this
journey called life with
the same hopes and dreams,
To be happy and healthy
To love and to feel loved
Peace of mind and a good night’s rest
To be accepted and knowing that
we have walked this journey
the best we know and could have.

The Great Preacher

hope for each day - billy graham
I remember
growing up in one of the
oldest towns in Pahang, Malaysia.
I attended church every Sunday.
Church services were held
at the parsonage
as there were only about
twenty members at that time.
On special occasions,
our Pastor would let us
watch Billy Graham’s
evangelistic rally
on a VCR.
I was a teenager
the first time I watched
this charismatic
preacher on TV.
I was blown away
by Billy Graham’s
sincere and moving message
of God’s love and hope.
And I enjoyed his sense of humor.
I wished our Pastor would
deliver his sermons
just like him.
A preacher who could
awaken our souls and
not make us fall asleep.
Billy Graham had
inspired my faith
but I wouldn’t say
I am religious,
perhaps more spiritual.
But what I am sure is that
I believe in God,
the creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in His word,
love and grace.
And I believe
in the power of prayer.

Billy Graham (1918 – 2018)

Memorable quotes by Billy Graham:
“Take one day at a time. Today, after all, is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.”
“We say to our children, ‘Act like grown-ups,’ but Jesus said to the grown-ups, ‘Be like children.’
“They asked her (Ruth Graham) did she ever think about divorce and she said, ‘No, I’ve never thought of divorce in all these 35 years of marriage, but,’ she said, ‘I did think of murder a few times.’”
“The only time my prayers are never answered is on the golf course.”
“God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.”
“God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in heaven, and if it takes my dog being there, I believe he’ll be there.”
“The message I preach hasn’t changed. Circumstances have changed. Problems have changed, but deep inside man has not changed, and the gospel hasn’t changed.”
“We are the Bibles the world is reading; we are the creeds the world is needing; we are the sermons the world is heeding.”
“When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost.”
“During all my years as an evangelist, my message has always been the Gospel of Christ. It is not a Western religion, nor is it a message of one culture or political system . . . it is a message of life and hope for all the world.”
“Someone asked me recently if I didn’t think God was unfair, allowing me to have Parkinson’s and other medical problems when I have tried to serve him faithfully. I replied that I did not see it that way at all. Suffering is part of the human condition, and it comes to us all. The key is how we react to it, either turning away from God in anger and bitterness or growing closer to him in trust and confidence.”
“The moment we take our last breath on earth, we take our first in heaven.”

Joke of the day – Pug’s life

Hello, I’m Pugcasso!
little artist
Sometimes I like to be pugs bunny…
or a lady pug.

lady pug

I’m bored.  Do you want to play pug of war with me?
Let’s sing ‘twinkle twinkle little pug‘.  You know that song, right?
And remember,  “A pug hug a day…
will keep the dogter away!

Happy Chinese New Year

illustriouscookedanemonecrab-max-1mb

Chinese New Year begins tomorrow, 16th February and 2018 will be the year of the dog. As you know, the dog is a symbol of loyalty, honesty and faithfulness.  Besides, if you spell ‘dog’ backwards, it becomes ‘god’.
This new year, I’m reminded of the lessons learned from our slobbering pets.
Lesson #1:   The joy of living in the now
Dogs do not think about yesterday nor do they worry about what’s going to happen tomorrow. They live in the now.
Lesson #2:  There is always time for playtime
Dogs understood the importance of playtime for healthy mind, body and soul.
Lesson #3:   In life, we sometimes messed up
It’s okay to mess up.  Just shake it off, clean yourself up and move on.
Lesson #4:   Dig deeper
Dogs are persistent when it comes to digging for their buried bone/treasure.  Sometimes, we need to persevere and dig deeper to reach our goals.
Lesson #5:   Loyalty stills counts
Canines are loyal to their humans and animal friends due to their patience and selflessness.
Lesson #6:   Give unconditional love and expect nothing in return
Dogs love their humans and animal friends unconditionally because they are sincere,  non-judgmental and they do not hold grudges.

The old bus stop

old bus stop
Bus stop –
a place where buses stop for passengers
to board or alight from a bus.
But there’s an old bus stop that
I pass by often.
one that brings back happy memories.
A special bus stop where
my friend, J & I used to
hang out many years ago.
We both went to the same college.
She rented a room in a house
right opposite the bus stop
and I rented a room in another house
about 50 meters down the street.
This old bus stop is the place
where we spent hours talking
about anything and everything.
I’m grateful we are still good friends,
though she resides in another country.
Over the years, we both had our own
shares of joy and heartaches in life.
But, I believe we had risen
stronger each time we fall.
Because we’re both fighters.
We will find our way
through every adversity.
The rocky paths that
we sometimes had to take
and all we could do is
keep moving forward
 and hope for brighter days.
And, just like the old bus stop,
may we be resilient, and may we keep standing!

Relax…
Take a deep breath
and imagine
you’re blowing all your
fears into the red balloons,
worries into the green balloons,
shattered dreams into the blue balloons,
and disappointments into the yellow balloons.
Then tie them all up.
Count to three
and let them go!
Take a moment and watch
these colourful balloons fly away.
Soon the heaviness in your heart
will be lifted.
And you will be ready to move on.
Remember that life
does not have to be purrfect
to be beautiful!

“Mom said to put all my sadness in these balloons and let them fly away.”

Hello Dad…

visit to cemetery

Hello Dad,
today is January 7th
the same date seventeen years ago
at the wee hour of the morning
when I held you in my arms as you
struggled and breathe your last.
The last time Mom and I visited you
at the cemetery was quite some time ago
Not that we have forgotten you but
we believe your spirit dwells
in our hearts and not at the place
where we laid you to rest.
I’m glad I visited you today, Dad
I believe you were at the cemetery too.
I found peace within as I reminisce on the
lessons learned after your passing…
Life is too short to be grumpy
There’s hope in the midst of adversity.
Our success or failures does not
define who we are.
Life is about being joyful.
And there’s joy…
in being yourself
in giving & sharing
in the midst of pain and suffering,
May we find the strength
to let go of our past…
the years of pain and difficulties that
we had somehow survived and have made
 us more compassionate and resilient.
May our hearts be filled with
love, joy and  peace
as we continue to live
joyfully in the moment.

Once upon a time – NBC

Once upon a time…life was simple and purrfect.

shaye on the sand

In a twinkling of an eye, I’m all grown up.
And I had to attend the school’s orientation.
schoo orientation
We were told to queue at the school hall like forever.

Then, the teachers took us for a school tour.

Yesterday was the fist day of school.
(Oopsie.., I should have kept my mouth closed
– my two front teeth are missing!)

at school hall

No worries, Mom..  I’m all ready for Primary One.

Hmmm…it’s time to pay attention and try to look serious.

The part I love most about school is break time.
